Stomach Pain Overview

Stomach pain plagues many Americans nationwide. It is a common symptom that is notorious for being difficult to diagnose by history alone. Most often it requires help from a medical professional and even further imaging to decipher the problem. The issue with stomach pain is that it has many sources that are all located relatively close together. There is a multitude of organs located in the abdominal cavity. These organs include the liver, spleen, pancreas, stomach, duodenum, small intestines, and large intestines. If anything is wrong with any one of these organs very commonly we will see nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. This makes it difficult to diagnose. That is why we will give you the necessary information needed in this website to be able to talk to your doctor about the stomach pain that you are currently experiencing. For further questions call 1 919-759-5460.

Causes of stomach pain

Pancreatitis: Pancreatitis is condition characterized by an inflamed and angry pancreas. Things that can irritate the pancreas include alcohol consumption and gallstones. These are the two most common offending agents, but there are also medications, autoimmune disease and other issues that can do this as well. Pancreatitis is accompanied by symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and severe abdominal pain. These are very non-specific symptoms and should be taken seriously if you are a heavy alcohol drinker and or have a history of gallstones with an intact gallbladder. If you think you are experiencing these symptoms then it is best to be evaluated by a medical professional.  The nausea and vomiting can be so severe as to prevent a person from eating. This can cause anorexia and lead to further problems with healing. Pancreatic enzymes are also responsible for breaking down proteins in your diet such as durable animal muscle and tendons. If these enzymes are introduced into the blood circulation as a result of inflammation you could have self digestion of contents in your own abdominal cavity as well as rapid respiratory failure. Stomach Ulcer: Stomach ulcers are not joke. They typically cause nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain as well. Again these are very non-specific symptoms so it is imperative that you seek medical consultation. A clue that may aide in the diagnosis of a stomach ulcer is bloody vomit. Bloody vomit can be caused by multiple diseases, but it definitely rules in a stomach ulcer as a possible cause of your abdominal pains. Ulcers should always be evaluated by a physician. The physician can make sure you see the right specialist to get the correct treatment immediately. For further questions call 1 919-759-5460.

Causes Continued

Gastroenteritis (Stomach Flu): Gut infections often are accompanied by stomach pain, diarrhea, with or without a fever. The gut has bacteria located in its depths that are necessary for breakdown and metabolism of certain nutrients such as folic acid. These bacteria can sometimes invade the gut and become problematic for the host they inhabit. Because of the close proximity of these bacteria to your gut we can get gut infections.  These gut infections can very in their severity. Most gut infections can be self limited and will resolve on their own. But the issue is an emergency once an individual looses too much fluid and becomes unstable when they stand up or sit-up.  Once this happens it is time to see a physician immediate for fluid replenishing treatments.  Also with gut infections you can have symptoms of bloody diarrhea. If you have bloody diarrhea then make sure to see a physician immediately for evaluation.
